What bank should I apply to for $5000.00 personal loan?

Army Wife asked:

My husband and I are trying to apply for a $5000.00 personal loan, we are newly-weds and I’m hoping to move to Texas in January to be with him. He’s in the Army, and I’m currently unemployed so he is the only one with an income right now. Wells Fargo would have approved us, if only he could be around to sign the papers with me. If anybody has any advice it would be greatly appreciated. Thank you.

Take this time to get a job and save up the $5000.00 to move. Then you dont have to borrow the money. He will appreciate the support and won’t have to come back to that debt.

I think it all comes down to your credit reports. If your scores are close or higher than 680, I would try a bank like Bank of America, Regions or Wachovia. I personally prefer credit Unions, if you belong to one I recomed talking to them. If not, I would try Citi-Financial or Beneficial (HSBC Financial). Also, if your husbank is in the Army, I would start by looking at USAA or some financial institution that deals with the military, they are used to this kind of request.

He would have to apply for the loan unless you have a power of attorney that states you can. $5000 is a lot of money, especially for a military family. I was in the military for a few years, and I know how tough it can be. Try to find a way to either use less money for the move (the military will pay for your relocation), or if you must get a loan, have him apply at a large national bank, and have the money put into an account at that bank. You then can withdraw the money from anywhere that bank is located.
